al-Nusra's leaders announcing the changing of its name |
Speaking to BBC, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the U.S. of protecting al-Nusra and other Jihadist groups in Syria to leverage them to achieve its political goals. He emphatically declared that the U.S. military never attacked, not even once, al-Nusra positions in Syria. When BBC asked a U.S. senator with that assertion, he did not refute it, claiming instead, that the U.S. priority is to push for political solution that does not include Assad (listen starting at 7 min. mark), all but confirming Russia's claim that U.S. priority is confront ISIS, but did not mention al-Nusra, and to bring about a regime change in Syria.
